4 Ways to Celebrate Employee Wellness Month

Every June, companies celebrate Employee Wellness Month to help create a positive impact towards the overall well-being of their employees. As a leader in the fitness industry, American Family Fitness understands the importance of living a healthy and fit lifestyle especially in this age of “go-go-go”. That’s why we offer a corporate wellness program to our partners that provides fitness, nutrition, and overall wellness solutions for its employees. Our goal is to celebrate employee wellness not only in June but all year round.

Here are four ways to help celebrate employee wellness:

1. Express Gratitude

Having the right mindset in the workplace is critical to the mental, emotional and physical well-being of your employees. We’re not just talking about being hyper-focused on a specific task or project but feeling less stressed, more present and active.

Studies show that when employees feel supported and are recognized by their peers and leadership for their efforts and contribution in their job, whether it is towards a project or a special accomplishment, employees report higher job satisfaction and are more productive and less sick.

Taking the time to recognize and express gratitude for an individual’s or team’s recent success or efforts has the potential to create a powerful trickle effect across the company. How so? When someone is recognized and are feeling good from the recognition or words of gratitude given, they are more likely to pass it on. Would it be so terrible to work with so many genuinely happy and grateful people?

2. Lead by Example: Eat Healthy and Exercise

Each and every one of you have the ability to create change. Think of yourself as your company’s in-house #influencer.

Where do you start? Begin by packing yourself a nutritious lunch for work, reach for an apple instead of a bag of chips when you need a snack, take the steps instead of the elevator, get up and walk the floor every hour, do 10 squats every other hour, and pack your gym bag and go directly to the gym after work and… wait for it…WORKOUT! Your body will thank you for all the healthy nutrition and activity plus (here’s the cool part) you’ll soon notice that the people who are around you the majority of the day will want to emulate you.

You can even take this one step further and create a friendly body composition competition with teams of employees under the supervision of one of our Registered Dietitians and Personal Trainers.

Did you know? By working out with a fitness buddy you are more likely to stick to a workout routine and achieve results.

3. Offer an Incentive to Your Employees

Sometimes it takes a little more than leading by example to get employees motivated to incorporate fitness into their busy schedule. Offering an incentive, such as a corporate gym membership to American Family Fitness, may be the perfect solution. With nine locations and over 300 weekly classes of cycle, mind & body, group fitness and aquatic fitness, plus weight rooms, tons of cardio equipment, personal training options, nutrition services, and programs for kids, American Family Fitness has something for everyone!

4. Host a Nutrition Workshop

Have you ever Googled “Best weight loss diet” and not felt overwhelmed? There are so many fad diets out on the internet that it’s scary. What works for one person may not work for someone else and can sometimes cause unwanted weight gain or health problems in the end. The best source to get the right answers is a Registered Dietitian. A Registered Dietitian has a degree in nutrition, has completed an accredited 1000+-hour internship, has passed a national board exam, and maintains a registration status through ongoing continuing education.

American Family Fitness offers several workshops throughout the year on subjects like body composition, nutrition, and food label education. If you are interested in hosting a workshop for your employees, contact Pam Speich, Director of Nutrition Services at pspeich@amfamfit.com.

Now that you have four ways to get your employees moving, eating healthy and feeling great, we’ll be eagerly waiting to hear all about how you’ve helped to positively transform lives!
